Roaming Chicken Phase

Day 1 to week 6

• From day 1 to 30 our chicks stay under lights.
• They are very small and need special love and care.
• Bedding consists of a coarse of sawdust.
• For the first 3 days stress pack is given to them for health and as a booster.
• Pullet Starter food is given to the chicks in large trays, do not put under the lights.
• Food can be given dry or wet in a ratio of 1 to 3.
• Depending on the amount of chicks enough space must be given under the lights and elsewhere.
• For the first 7 days, keep lights on 24/7. Thereafter only put on the lights at night.
• Feed the chickens ad lib; meaning that the food must be always available. The first 6 weeks are very important in the development of the chicks.
• Sick and dead chicks must be removed immediately for optimal health.
• After 4 weeks chicks can be sprayed with Viro Kill once a week for combating bacteria and infections.

Growing Phase

• Food is changed from Pullet Starter to Pullet Grower.
• Keep feeding ad lib.
• More space must be given to growing chicks.
• It is very important to vaccinate your chickens at this stage of the growing program.
• Water must be changed regularly, more often if needed in hot areas.
• Visit cages regularly to attend to any problems that may arise.
